EPSS 210 Earth Materials
This course introduces the fundamentals of mineralogy, including systematics, chemistry and
crystallography, and the physical and optical properties of minerals. The student is introduced to the most
common analytical methodologies used in mineralogy and learns to use the petrographic microscope to
describe and identify a variety of rock-forming minerals in hand samples and petrographic thin-sections.
