HUMA 395 Islam and the Discourse of the Enlightenment
This course is devoted to a sustained exploration of the encounter between Islam and the Enlightenment
with a focus on the philosophical and intellectual sphere. It seeks to study the ways in which contemporary Muslim intellectuals engaged with different aspects of the epochal phenomenon of the Enlightenment and the likely outcome of such an encounter for the Arab-Muslim world. The course utilizes modern methodologies in hermeneutics and discourse analysis.
