College of Computing and Mathematical Sciences

One of the main pillars of Abu Dhabi’s social, political, and economic future is a sustainable knowledge-based economy, as outlined in the Abu Dhabi Vision 2030. The overarching purpose of the College of Computing and Mathematical Sciences at the Khalifa University of Science and Technology is to work towards this vision by advancing the discovery of new knowledge, its dissemination, and exploitation.

 

The objective of the College of Computing and Mathematical Sciences at Khalifa University of Science and Technology is the development, teaching and exploitation of new knowledge, leading to the harmonic synergy between human talent and machine intelligence outlined in the Abu Dhabi Vision 2030. The College aims to help boosting the economic development of Abu Dhabi and of the region, providing the strong conceptual foundations, the innovative ideas and the talent pool that local industries need to grow in highly competitive areas such as intelligent devices, human-machine assistive collaboration, mobile networks and complex systems management.

The College of Computing and Mathematical Sciences is a highly interconnected community of top scholars, students and staff who are dedicated to deliver innovation and research-driven education in the key disciplines underlying the digital transformation, for the ultimate benefit of human society. The College is actively involved in supporting UAE national initiatives of talent pool development in all types of digital skills.

 

College Mission

The College of Computing and Mathematical Sciences serves the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the UAE, and the world by providing students with an advanced education based on the paradigm of research-driven learning, empowering them to become the leaders in the evolution of computer science and digital technology. The College contributes to the Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 by conducting cutting edge fundamental, interdisciplinary and translational research in all strategic areas of computing and mathematical sciences.

College Postgraduate Degree Programs

The postgraduate degree programs offered by the College of Computing and Mathematical Sciences are in two categories: Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

The Master of Science programs are:

 

  • Master of Science in Applied Mathematics
  • Master of Science in Computational Data Science
  • Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering
  • Master of Science in Cyber Security
  • Master of Science in Computer Science

     

    All the MSc programs consist of a minimum of 30 credit hours. The required program credits are distributed as follows: 12 credits of Program Core courses, 9 credits of Program Elective courses, and 9 credits of Master’s Thesis work.

    The Doctor of Philosophy programs are:

     

  • Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical and Computer Engineering 

  • Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics

The PhD program typically consists of 60 credit hours for the regular PhD (With MSc) and 72 credit hours for the direct PhD (Without MSc). The regular PhD program required credits are distributed as follows: 3 credits of Program Core courses, 21 credits of Program Elective courses, and 36 credits of PhD Research Dissertation work. The direct PhD program required credits are distributed as follows: 9 credits of Program Core courses, 27 credits of Program Elective courses, and 36 credits of PhD Research Dissertation work.

Internship

Internships provide an important opportunity for Khalifa University graduate students to experience a unique facility or specialization offered by an academic institution, research centre or company. Internship experiences can enhance the research students undertake at Khalifa University and facilitate real world applications. Students gain professional experience by interacting with potential research partners and employers, as well as an understanding of the skills needed in different industry sectors. Internship students will promote Khalifa University as a world class institution among government and industry entities in the UAE and all over the world. Students who demonstrate promising potential for independent work and whose research topic lends itself to external collaboration may be considered for an internship.

All registered graduate students can apply for an internship during their studies at Khalifa University. Internships are optional and subject to approval.
