MATH 794 Special Topics in MATH

This is a course on the modeling of solitary waves, focusing on presenting various models and analytical techniques and how these are related to various areas of science and engineering. Emphasis is made on the development of research skills related to problems involving nonlinear dynamics. The basic elements of soliton theory are reviewed and representative applications are discussed. The course consists of two parts: the main concepts and methods for analysis of soliton theory are introduced and then students apply the taught methodology in a specific problem of their choice.
