HUMA 265 Sufism in Islam
This course introduces students to Islamic mysticism (Sufism). It focuses on the various schools of the
tradition, their fundamental ideas, practices, and institutions. It identifies the role of mysticism in Islamic
history, literature and society, both among Muslims and non-Muslims. The course surveys major Muslim
mystics, their thoughts, and their influence on contemporary Muslim thought.
