ERTH 724 Clastic Sedimentology and Depositional Systems

This course explores the processes that govern the deposition of clastic sediments. The course includes examination of turbidity, glacial, estuarian, deep marine, cataclastic, gravity, fluvo-deltaic and aeolian deposits, exploring the most up to date research in these areas to describe and interpret clastic sediments in modern and archival sediments. We will examine sediments in the field and through remotely sensed images to interpret the provenance of clastic sediments and their complex depositional systems. The course will utilize techniques in sedimentology, stratigraphy and geochemical techniques used to understand clastic sediment systems across a wide array of landscapes.
