EHS Procedures for Lab and Workshop Facilities

In university labs and workshops, students are expected to handle instruments, equipment, and materials that might be potentially hazardous. For this reason, students are required to attend the Online EHS inductions and Lab- Specific orientations, and to read the EHS manuals associated with all lab and workshop activities. Students will not be allowed to participate in the lab or workshop activities unless they have demonstrated a clear understanding of the safety procedures involved.

Students must obtain a lab instructor’s approval before starting the experiments in labs /workshops. Students are not allowed to work alone in a lab or workshop due to the risk of an accident or medical emergency. Inattention or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated in any lab or workshop activity. Repeated cases will be referred for disciplinary action. Equipment, tools, and materials must be handled in a manner that is safe for the students and instructor and only if authorized to do so. Students have a responsibility to report any unsafe act or condition which they witness. Further information is available in the EHS manuals.
