NUCE 744 Interfacial Transport and Phase Change Heat Transfer

This course aims to present insightful understanding of interfacial transport, phase-change and multiphase flow phenomena in nature, power, energy, manufacturing, desalination and chemical processes. It covers different levels of principles, from fundamental gas kinetics, microfluidics, interfacial tension, surface wettability, solid-fluid adhesion and phase transition, to interfacial liquid-vapor transport dynamics, to nucleation, evaporation, pool/flow boiling, condensation, deposition, melting and solidification characteristics, and to phase changes of fluids in porous media and instability analysis of multiphase flows. Theoretical analysis, numerical simulation and experiments are used together to probe complicated multiphase thermal-fluid physics. Advanced lab characterization tools are introduced to engage academic thermal-fluid research with knowledge discovery and innovation in energy, power and water industries
