CIVE 797 PhD Dissertation Defense
The PhD Dissertation Defense is the final examination of the doctoral program and represents the culmination of the candidate's independent research. The examination requires the candidate to present and defend the dissertation before the Dissertation Defense Committee, demonstrating the originality, significance, and scholarly merit of the research, as well as the candidate's mastery of the field, critical thinking, research competence, and ability to communicate and defend the research methodology, findings, and conclusions. The possible outcomes of the Dissertation Defense are Pass, Pass with Minor Corrections, Adjourned and Re-examination (Dissertation Only), Adjourned and Re-examination (Dissertation and Oral Examination), and Fail, in accordance with the University's Graduate Academic regulations.
