PEEG 741 Geological Storage of Carbon Dioxide

This course is about the fundamental and advanced concepts related to CO2 geo-sequestration. The course will introduce the scope of CCS in the energy transition context. In particular, the course will include discussions on trapping mechanisms and the factors influencing trapping potential including geochemical and geo-mechanical effects and the associated seal integrity. The course will also emphasize the wetting behavior of rock/CO2/brine systems and its impact on trapping potential. Additionally, the molecular to reservoir scale perspective of the displacement processes during CO2 geo-storage will be discussed. Importantly, the site selection criteria and monitoring techniques will be presented to give students a flavor of the real-life sequestration project.
