Registration for Thesis or Dissertation
Thesis/dissertation registration is mandatory in each regular (Fall and Spring) semester following the allocation of a research project and continuing until the successful completion of the student's final defense, provided the student remains in Good Standing. Students must register for the appropriate thesis or dissertation research credit hours required by their graduate program. In addition, all full-time students holding a Khalifa University scholarship/assistantship must register for thesis/dissertation research during the Summer Term. Failure to maintain Summer Term registration may result in the suspension or termination of the student's scholarship/assistantship, in accordance with the applicable scholarship/assistantship regulations. In exceptional circumstances, a student may be permitted to register for thesis/dissertation research during the first semester of study with the approval of the relevant Department Chair, the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies of the College, and the Associate Provost for Academic Operations.
A student who successfully completes their thesis defense in a regular semester does not need to register for the thesis again in the following regular semester. This applies even if the student's CGPA is below 3.0 and they must register for additional courses to bring it up to 3.0.
Summer Term registration for thesis/dissertation is not mandatory for full-time graduate students who are externally sponsored or on a fee-paying basis.
