AERO 450 Mechanics of Flight

This course covers the fundamental principles of flight dynamics and stability. It examines inertial and non-inertial coordinate systems, longitudinal static stability, static margin, trim analysis, and lateral and directional static stability. The aircraft equations of motion are then derived, linearized, and solved. The longitudinal and lateral–directional flight dynamic modes are introduced, and aircraft responses to various control inputs are studied. The course is complemented by practical sessions using the in-house Merlin MP 521 flight simulator to model and fly aircraft.
