EPSS 323 Solid Earth Geophysics

This course examines how seismic, gravity, geomagnetic, electrical, and electromagnetic fields reveal Earth’s internal structure, dynamics, and lithospheric architecture. The course develops the ability to integrate geophysical survey results with borehole logging and geochronology to characterize the crust and mantle. It emphasizes quantitative interpretation of solid Earth processes to support geological investigations and resources and hazard evaluation using physics- based and machine learning AI methods including unsupervised learning, tree ensembles and deep learning.
