EPSS 413 Geology of Mars
This course provides a comprehensive overview of the geological evolution of Mars through the lens of planetary explo-ration. Students will examine the planet’s surface processes, mineralogy, petrology, and climate history using data from orbital remote sensing, landers, and rover missions. The course highlights the chronology of Mars exploration, impact cratering, fluvial, aeolian, glacial, and periglacial landforms, as well as the mineralogical and petrological record that constrains Mars’s hydrologic and climatic evolution. The course culminates in discussions of the early climate debate, current mission findings, and future exploration prospects.
