Undergraduate Catalog

PHYS 131 Introduction to Mechanical Systems and Thermodynamics

This course provides students with a vector- and calculus-based introduction to mechanical systems and thermodynamics, including consideration of elasticity of solids, central-force systems, fluid mechanics, mechanical waves, and thermal physics. Students explore the universal law of gravity and planetary motions, fluid forces, fluid kinetics, mechanical oscillations, waves and wave interference, the kinetic theory of gases, temperature, heat, entropy, and the laws of thermodynamics.
