PUBH 615 Social and Behavioral Determinants in Public Health

This course covers the psychological, social, and cultural factors that influence health and well-being in communities. Students will explore foundational theories and models from psychology and sociology as they relate to public health practice. Emphasis is placed on applying social and behavioral science principles to design, implement, and evaluate effective public health interventions and policies. The course examines the social determinants that contribute to well-being and resilience, including factors observed in high-longevity regions, or 'Blue Zones,' and explores how socioeconomic status, gender, and cultural practices influence public health outcomes in diverse communities. Through practical examples, students will learn how to utilize social ecological models to address public health challenges at individual, community, and societal levels.
