PUBH 734 Fundamentals of Infectious and Chronic Disease
This course introduces the fundamental properties of disease, emphasizing infectious disease and chronic disease epidemiology. The course equips students with a foundation in the epidemiology of diseases, which forms the foundation for the epidemiology course and advanced electives. The course provides students with an understanding of the basic epidemiologic profiles of a major infectious disease syndrome, including demographic patterns associated with the disease, transmission, and pathogenesis of the disease, and the risk factors associated with the disease. It also introduces the fundamental aspects of chronic disease, including the demographics of patients, the factors that place them at risk, and available treatments. With every topic, students will be introduced to cutting-edge research that addresses the current challenges associated with the disease.
