PHYS 723 Quantum Mechanics II

The course discusses advanced concepts in quantum mechanics. Scattering theory is developed, and an introduction to the Dirac equation and its consequences for fine-and hyperfine-atomic structure is provided. Field quantization is introduced through its application to the electromagnetic field, and its applications to atom-field interactions and system-environment interactions are outlined. The quantum theory of systems with identical particles is discussed, and a field-quantization approach to many-body problems is introduced.
