Undergraduate Catalog

PHYS 311 Intermediate Mechanics

This course provides an analytical treatment of classical mechanics at the intermediate undergraduate level. It develops the theoretical foundations of particle and system dynamics using Newtonian, Lagrangian, and Hamiltonian formulations. Emphasis is placed on conservation laws, oscillatory motion, variational principles, and motion under central forces. The course also strengthens students’ ability to model physical systems, apply advanced mathematical methods, and analyze complex mechanical phenomena.
